Hamburg, Germany based Qype, a Yelp-like site that’s focused on European markets, has recently had long acquisition looks from both Google and Nokia. A deal with Nokia in particular was looking extremely likely until recently. Google supposedly took a look at the company and passed, opting instead to just importQype’s content. Nokia made a run for the company after Google, with one source saying that a term sheet had been signed in the $50 million range.

Yelp raises $25 M through Series E funding from Elevation Partners at a post money valuation of $475M. Elevation Partners will also seek to increase its total investment in Yelp to $100 million through a planned purchase of shares from vested employees and other shareholders. Yelp will highlight users who check-in frequently at a single location, but unlike Foursquare’s game feature, where everyone competes to become the only “mayor” of particular location, each location in Yelp Check-ins will have a group of “regulars.”
